“do you still take pictures?”

I received a phone call from a new client yesterday and her first questions was, “Umm, yes, do you still take pictures??”. My first thought was, “Crap. I need to start blogging again!”. I am aware of the importance of blogging as a photographer. Heck, I was one of the first photographers doing it (gosh that makes me sound old) and I always harp on the importance of it to other photographers who I mentor. If for no other reason, blogging is important to let people know you’re still in business. Haha!

So one might ask why I haven’t been blogging lately. Well I have been busy with shoots, weddings, and other work duties. The major reason I have put blogging on the back burner, however, is because I have been enjoying being a wife and mommy. I spent the last several years shooting as many weddings and sessions as I could get my hands on, sometimes shooting 36 weddings or more and between 150-200 non-wedding related sessions in one year. Crazy, I know! When my husband and I started our adoption process last spring I decided to take a bit less work until we knew how many children we would be getting and what ages. Well we now have a 2 1/2 year old little boy (he was about 21 months old when he came to live with us last August)!

Having a new child come into our home just one week before our daughter, Ella, stated Kindergarten threw me for a loop and made me realize how much I missed “just being Mommy”. I made a decision to be finished with ALL work by the time Ella got out of school every day. In doing this I realized there were going to be things I would have to sacrifice in my work to make this happen. Blogging was one of those things. And let me just say that being the OCD perfectionist I am this was not an easy thing. At all!! But I have loved spending all this extra time with my babies!

I LOVE my work! Photography has been my passion since I can remember. And it still is my passion…one of them anyway. But my husband, my sweet Ella, and our precious little man…my family is the greatest passion in my life. I know that if my family is not at the forefront of my life and priorities then my work (and clients) will suffer just as much.

So, yes, I do still take pictures. But I make sure my babies are fully loved on and my sweet husband taken care of first.

I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long without blogging! So sorry everyone! I have some exciting news though (for those of you who don’t already know) which will explain my absence here in blog land. We are adopting! We made the decision several months ago that it was time. Adoption is something we have always known we would eventually do. I’ll tell you the short version of where we are in the process. After much prayer we decided to adopt a foster child/children so we are going through CPS. We have finished all of the required paperwork and classes, are licensed, and are now just waiting to be matched. We don’t care about race, sex, etc and we are willing to take children from birth to 6 years. Yes, you read that right…children. We are open to sibling groups. We are beyond excited to see who God has for our family!

So that’s where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to lately. Oh and I have been shooting like a mad woman as well! I have so many sessions to blog it’s unreal. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to get caught up. I have sessions from like April I think that haven’t been blogged….not to mention every wedding I’ve shot this year. Fingers crossed that I can become a more consistent blogger again! Here’s just a little peek at some of the sessions I’ve done over the past several months that haven’t made it on the blog yet.
